The WWE & Heat videos started things up over at WWE.com. My God, the Heat video still contains no shots or even references to wrestling whatsoever. What a video to get me pumped up for a wrestling show. After the videos, Todd Grisham showed up pumping up how it's a "special" edition of Heat. Why special? First off, no Coach and that can't be anything but good news. Of course, we still have Todd Grisham who wouldn't be so bad if he knew a thing or two about pro wrestling. I'll still never get him over calling Jushin Thunder Liger "Justin." Anyway, the second reason was that the entire show is devoted to the rivalry of D-Generation X and the McMahons. Goody. Yep, that's exactly what I want to watch: a recap show. I miss Velocity. At least when that show had recap versions, it still recapped things I cared about. Grisham talked about DX tearing it up a few years ago and I don't know his definition of the word few, but the last time we saw DX was in 2000 and the last time we saw DX with Shawn Michaels and Triple H was 1998. Six to eight years does not sound like a few to me. See what I'm talking about with the pro wrestling knowledge? He then said how only two members of DX are left in WWE. Well, that one's not so bad because it depends on how you look at it. There could be a case made for Mick Foley, Kane, Vince McMahon, & Shane McMahon all being un-official members in 1998, 1999, 2000, & 2000 respectively. Still though, Grisham sucks.
He then went on to talk about how the McMahons were pissed off with both Triple H and Shawn Michaels and the two got together and said "we're not going to take it anymore." With that, they showed us the DX reunion from June 12th on RAW and while I hate recaps, it's better than watching Grisham. If you don't remember, I'll run it down briefly. They showed Triple H being beat on by four members of the Spirit Squad with Vince McMahon standing on the ramp offering encouragement. He told them to break his neck with a chair and then invited the fifth member to come out, except he came out tumbling thanks to Shawn Michaels. Enter Shawn Michaels in a blouse. God, I almost forgot all about Shawn Michaels and his manly tank tops. Anyway, Michaels and Triple H then took out the Squad and then posed for the delight of the crowd as JR hyped up the reunion. Interesting to note that they didn't show Triple H mooning Vince. Actually, that's a good thing.
After that recap, a commercial aired for Unforgiven highlighting Trish Stratus' retirement match against Lita for the Women's Title and they basically played up all Trish has done in WWE. To be honest, you kind of overlook all that Trish has done considering how WWE feels about their non-singles divisions, but she has done a hell of a lot. Here's hoping she does a lot more.
Grisham then came back and pumped up the "crotch chop heard round the world." How very comical of you, Todd. He stated how the McMahons declared open war on DX and talked about the Spirit Squad jumping into the fray. This, of course, lead to a recap of Saturday Night's Main Event, because WWE would never give away clips of something they can get you to buy (Vengeance) for free on Heat. This was on July 15th and it basically showed DX demolishing the Spirit Squad in the last time I think the Spirit Squad actually meant anything. Why DX never won the tag belts is beyond me. You beat the Tag Team Champions, not once, but twice, shouldn't you be Tag Champs? Anyway, they recapped the match, Vince watching in disgust, and then DX locking Vince in the cage along with the other members and standing tall on the cage itself. This recap obviously didn't do justice to just how bad DX killed off the Spirit Squad.
After that, a commercial then played for Hell In A Cell at Unforgiven playing up to Big Show's involvement and the McMahons having enough. I thought they had enough at Summerslam and that was the reason for that match. Seriously, I know Big Bossman Vs. Undertaker was the worse HIAC ever, but if it's possible, I care less about this one.
Todd then came back with another "joke" about DX having two kicks for ya. Todd's so witty. He talked about DX being back in the swing and he then showed the clips of DX's post-Summerslam antics including defacing the plane, defacing the WWE headquarters, and then tearing apart the McMahon limo. Of course, we just had to see the puppy dog eyes of McMahon as he explained how he's been broken by DX. At least it was just broken and not squashed like the Spirit Squad, Vince. Oh yeah, they also showed brief clips of DX winning at Summerslam which kind of shocked me. I figured they would opt for still shots or just assuming we watched it like always and like Vengeance earlier. Well, maybe it's cause Vengeance just had five rookies and Summerslam had the omnipotent McMahons. Yeah, that's it.
Final commercial then played which was of TLC at Unforgiven. I'm pretty sure all these played during RAW on the 11th so it's not like your missing much. Funny, that's pretty much Heat's un-official motto these days.
The Grish then came back on for what I hoped was the final time and said DX crossed the line and Vince lost it, which isn't a good thing. We then went to clips of the August 28th episode of RAW with Ken Kennedy, Finlay, & William Regal going against DX and then DX winning. Seriously, what did you expect DX to do? Big Show came out, they all fought, the other goons recovered, they took out DX, Vince came out, Shane came down, and then they all bloodied up the former rivals. Of course, WWE doesn't think we can handle blood in color so they naturally pushed it into black and white. They showed Triple H being taking out with a pipe and Michaels with a camera and then both being choked out before Vince announced it's not over until he says it's over and it will be them and Big Show against DX in Hell In A Cell, which literally got nothing out of the crowd showing just how much people want to see this one. Sadly, this didn't end the show and Grisham popped up once again to pump up the PPV match once more. He even busted out some gangsta talk, or at least what he thought's gangsta, as he said Big Show's there to make sure it got "hardcore in the mofo." By this point, I'm just marveling at the standards Grisham is setting for aspiring WWE personalities. Grisham then ended it up with how McMahons got the last laugh, anything goes in HIAC, we should all order and watch Unforgiven, and we should all visit WWE.com. Phew, that was it.
So yeah, Heat was a joke this week. There have been some fun recap shows in the past, but this was obviously not one of them and you should only check it out if you're a fan of horrendous booking and drawn out feuds. I don't even remember why I bothered to watch the show let alone write a review about it. Um, so yeah; I just wasted a half-hour and I can't even blame WWE for it since I willingly clicked on all four videos. I'm very depressed now.
Well, that's it. Let me wrap this craptacular review up by saying SmackDown's up next followed by a bunch of other reviews. That's basically it as I'm still marveled that I actually watched this show and reviewed it. My life is sad. 'Till next time, this is "Squared Circle Reviews" signing off and hoping you enjoy what you watch, considering you wanted to in the first place.
