Neo Spirit Pro Wrestling “Redemption”
Saturday March 26th, 2005
Canadian Serbian Cultural Centre
The show opened with ring announcer Jordan Olivencia entering the ring welcoming the crowd to the show, and singing the Canadian National Anthem.
After that was all said and done, Jordan announced “Peterborough” Mike Stevens to the ring, as he announced the first ever “Peterborough Challenge” which was accepted by Jake O’Reilly, much to the delight of the crowd. The match was very quick, with Jake O’Reilly gaining a quick advantage, hitting some bionic punches, and a knock out punch after rebounding off the ropes for the victory.
Winner: Jake O’Reilly
The music of Grand Independent Champion, Cody Steele, hit as he made his way to the ring accompanied by Jennifer Blake. He entered the ring, ran down Niagara Falls, the fans, who continue to make Cody relive the past by chanting “You Tapped Out”, from when he faced Kurt Angle, and finally, his opponent Derek Wylde. Pretty much the basic “I’m gonna win” shindig, but with a different twist, saying Jennifer Blake and his other buddies, known as Cool Impact, won’t interfere.
The next match was a tag team match putting Mastiff and Andrew Davis against The Coverboys, Ash and Cade Cassidy. The match started with each team trying to gain an advantage, with each team member getting some sort of action in the ring in the early going. Then the Coverboys started using their dirty tactics, as Ash, the illegal man at the time, interfered as Cade distracted the referee. Ash performed well, using rolling sentons and body presses to the outside of the ring. Each man in the match had a fair amount of time, and in the end The Coverboys picked up the victory as Cade rolled through a pin attempt, and held the ropes and Ash grabbed his other arm on the outside, which the ref seemed to miss, as Cade and Ash picked up the victory. After the match, Ash decided that it was appropriate to dance and what not with the male gender of the crowd.
Winners: The Coverboys
TJ Harley and the Unknown Bastard competed next, as the match started with the fans demanding to see some headlocks. TJ granted the fans their wish, executing several headlocks on the Unknown Bastard throughout the match. The Bastard then started to get some offense in, as both men started to try to gain the fair advantage with moves from the turnbuckles, back suplexes, and the sort. TJ Harley pulled off the win in the end of this one though, as the Unknown Bastard’s losing streak continued.
Winner: TJ Harley
For the next match, both of the competitors were new and I had never heard of them before, so instead of remembering what to put down for what happened, I watched every move of this match, just to see what kind of talent was being put into the ring in front of me. I did get the names down though, as it was Otis Idol going against CJ O’Doyle. While I was impressed with Otis, it was because he had the upper hand for most of the match, and pulled off some pretty nice moves on O’Doyle. One move off the turnbuckle was kind of like a 2nd rope backwards 360 splash thing, if that didn’t confuse you. Basically, he was facing the crowd on the 2nd rope, and flipped forward, moving backwards, hitting O’Doyle in the end. Another thing I remember about the match was the height on his jump in the center of the ring before hitting a knee drop. Pretty bad, I know, but now that I have seen both of them in action for the first time, I’ll be able to write more next time. Don’t mind the irony in this being the longest paragraph so far either, please. Otis pulled off the win.
Winner: Otis Idol.
The next match was basically the match I traveled to Canada to see. But what started off as a 4 way tag team ladder match for the vacant tag team titles quickly changed, as new Neo Spirit Pro commissioner Custom Made Man made his way out to the ring in the early goings of the match. As the 8 men, consisting of the Fort Erie Lions, The Italianos, Hayden Avery and Kris Chambers, and JT Playa and Sean Spears all battled in the ring, CMM made an announcement that this match was created by him, and he was out there to add one more team. The music of the All Knighters, Robin Knightwing and Joey Knight hit, and the crowd went crazy. Joey Knight has been out of action in Neo for a year, and Robin Knightwing for 3 months, as both are currently down in Ohio Valley Wrestling. Both are also, cheap plug, stars in the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie.
So what I thought would be an awesome match, already was with the addition of the All Knighters, as they quickly got into the ring to join the large group that was already brawling. From here on in, though, it was hard to keep your eye on everybody in the match, aside from a few parts which I will go over later on, but for awhile it was 5 groups of 1 on 1 competition. That competition started, however, after all 10 formed 2 lines of 5, and each line tried suplexing the man in front of them, until one side of god knows who was successful, and 10 bodies laid scattered across the ring.
From here on in though, although it probably won’t be in exact order, is everything I wrote down from the match. In the early going, before any ladders were introduced, and 8 men fought on the outside, the All Knighters got into the ring, and Joey Knight stood atop of Robin Knightwing, as the two made their way across the ring to try and grab the titles. This, however, prompted Kris Chambers to hop onto the apron and springboard himself off the top rope to dropkick Joey Knight down before they could reach the titles. Insert a few more minutes of brawling here, as finally the first 2 ladders are introduced, and assembled in the ring, before all 10 guys tower up and hit one of those huge suplex things, with 1 team on top, another suplexing that team, then another team and so on, like seen before in TNA, but with 10 guys, which was a holy…poop moment, and the crowd made sure of it.
The next few minutes consisted of people flying off ladders and turnbuckles onto the rest of the bunch on the outside, namely “Stickball” Tony Carbonie and “Sexy Monkey” Robin Knightwing, as each found it necessary to do so. Then, when everyone recovered, everyone started to brawl again.
Confused yet? No? Good. Because we aren’t even halfway over yet. But soon, people start dropping like flies and you can finally see everything that goes on in the match. Not yet though, soon, because tables and chairs were then put into the match, as some teams brawled on the outside of the ring, while some brawled on the inside. The Italianos and All Knighters, however found it necessary to take things to another level… literally. While 2 or 3 tables were set up atop each other a few feet away from the ring, the Italianos and All Knighters brawled up the stairs and into the balcony of the Serbian Hall, to the balcony fans delight, but what would be much to the dismay of Robin Knightwing in the end. While both teams tried to take an advantage, The Italianos came out winners of this little scuffle in the end, as Robin Knightwing was sent a good 15 feet to the tables, and which in turn sent him to the floor, and out of the match.
Again folks, you can see why this might be out of order, because for awhile it was just mass confusion, but now as superstars began to be taken out of the match, and some seeing the dreaded crimson mask, the match began to tone down a little bit, but no one wanted to give up and walk away until they had the gold. The only teams still in this one though, after Carbonie was bleeding bad as well, were Chambers/Avery, Playa/Spears, and the Fort Erie Lions. With many more tables broken, chair shots to the head, and power bomb variations onto ladders, each team was physically and mentally worn down by this brutal match. JT Playa needed help putting his shoulder back into place at one point, and minutes later needing the key to the handcuffs put on him by Hayden Avery, as they seemed too tight, with his hand losing blood circulation quickly. Sean Spears then appeared to me again, as he began to take control, taking out everyone in his way, but Kris Chambers, 2 or 3 inch gash in his forehead and all wouldn’t give up. As the Fort Erie Lions quickly were taken out of the match, something else I missed, it was down to 2 brutal and beaten teams to win the belts in Playa/Spears and Chambers/Avery. Spears and Playa quickly knocked their opponents down, and unfortunately for them, out, as Sean Spears climbed the ladder, and brought the belts down for their team.
The crowd saluted the efforts of all 10 men in the match, chanting “NSP” which JT Playa, who chanted along like he was emotional joined in. As the celebration started for the new tag team champions in Sean Spears and JT Playa, it quickly ended, as JT turned on his partner with a belt shot to the stomach, and he aligned himself with Hayden Avery, who took the other title, and the two aligned themselves with Cody Steele. JT and Hayden celebrated their cheated victory to the back, as both Sean Spears and Kris Chambers got up, saw each other, and shook hands, before leaving the ring as well.
Winners: Sean Spears and JT Playa
Tag Champions: JT Playa and Hayden Avery
With many others including myself confused as to what the hell just went on, Jordan informed us that intermission is next. As a few crew members cleaned up the carnage in and outside the ring, and Sinn entered the ring for Polaroid pictures with anyone who would pay the 3 dollars for them, Jordan came over the microphone again and announced that ECW legend Sabu was there, live and in person, as he came out to sign autographs. Intermission was held longer than expected though for the large turnout of fans in both the line to get a picture with Sinn, and to get Sabu’s autograph, as I did, and then went outside to get some fresh air, still trying to figure out what the heck happened.
Crazy Steve made his way out to participate in the next match against an unnamed opponent. Jennifer Blake than made her way out, and into the ring with Randy Walker’s Light Heavyweight title around her shoulder, and she had an announcement to make. Apparently Randy was home for the evening taking care of his sick grandmother, so Jennifer Blake had an opponent for Crazy Steve to see if he had another chance to win the Light Heavyweight title upon Randy Walkers return. Out came Eric Everlast, who Jennifer weighed in at 121.5 pounds, which means in her mind, he lost 143.5 pounds in a week, since he weighed 265 at the Empire State Wrestling show a week before, but he didn’t look any smaller. I demanded to see a doctor’s note, but came up empty. After several attempts of Crazy Steve trying to get a hand or two on Jennifer Blake, and even trying to kiss her, the match started, and Steve took the upper hand by biting Everlast in the head. Several minutes of fighting, and Jennifer Blake interferences later, Steve seemed down and out, but pulled out the upset on Eric Everlast with a roll up, enough for the 3 count, which didn’t make Jennifer Blake too happy.
Winner: Crazy Steve
The Notorious TID then came to the ring, accompanied by Pee Wee Kastels, as they proceeded to beat down Crazy Steve, as he cried for help. Pee Wee then took the microphone, and called out Sinn to come save his little friend. Sinn made his entrance, but before he could do anything, Pee Wee made him spin around 3 times and then accept a match with the Notorious one. Sinn accepted without hesitation, and a few moments later, after Sinn called for a referee, the match begun. Both men brawled in and around the ring, with Pee Wee trying to get involved several times throughout the match, being scared away by Sinn every time. While the crowd began rallying behind Sinn as he took the upper hand, TID fought back after several referee distractions which could have gave Sinn the win. TID fought back, however, and picked up the victory, but it wasn’t enough to keep Sinn down, as he stood up quick, and made it verbal, saying “I’m still standing”, before addressing the Niagara Falls fans, and then heading to the back.
Winner: Notorious TID
The main event was up next, as Cody Steele was set to defend his Grand Independent Championship in a 2 out of 3 falls match against Derek Wylde who earned his rematch at the title by defeating Notorious TID at the January show, and 4 others last month in February. Cody Steele entered the ring with one of the 2 titles awarded to the Grand Independent Champion, as Derek Wylde made his short entrance soon there after. I say short because before he could get to the ring, Jennifer Blake knocked him out with a shot to the back of the head with the other belt, before disappearing backstage again. This allowed Cody to pick up a quick first fall, by getting Derek into the ring and hitting his Completely Finished for the 3.
Winner of Fall 1: Cody Steele
The match continued as Derek made his way to his feet, and Cody tried to gain control, but Derek fought back. This continued for several minutes in and outside the ring, and I believe this is wear Cody hit the Completely Finished, which is a Sliced Bread for those that don’t know, off the ring steps. Derek got back in before the 10 however, and the match continued. With both men on their feet, each brawled some more, as Cody continued to try and hit his Completely Finished, but was pushed away by Derek each time. Each man now tried to get a move in, but were unsuccessful for awhile, until Cody decided to roll Derek up, which Derek rolled through with a pin of his own for the three, causing the 3rd fall to become the determining factor.
Winner of Fall 2: Derek Wylde
With Cody angry at being pinned for the 3, he began fighting back, again trying to hit his finisher, and again getting pushed away, right back into an Inside Out Bomb attempt by Derek Wylde. This was reversed also, however, and the fight continued. A move or two later, the ref was taken down with a kick, and Derek stumbled back as well. This allowed new tag team champions JT Playa and Hayden Avery to come and interfere, as Hayden Avery took out Cody Steele with a belt shot. JT Playa, appalled by this, yelled at Hayden, asking him what he is doing hitting the guy they are supposed to be helping. JT helps Cody up, but then hits him with a belt shot of his own, as Derek gets back up, and the three laugh and have a group hug. Derek then points to Cody and tells the champs to pick Cody up, as they hoist Cody onto Derek’s shoulders, and he hits the Inside Out Bomb and pins the champion, as Hayden and JT wake the ref up to count the pinfall, as Derek Wylde becomes new champion.
Winner of Fall 3 and New Grand Independent Champion: Derek Wylde
Derek asks for the microphone as JT Playa grabs the titles from the timekeepers table, and the 2 join Derek in the ring. Derek runs down Niagara Falls, tells the fans that they suck, he breaks his back for them, and all he gets in return is “Yea, Nice job Derek” “Good Match Dangerboy” “You’re the best”. He then starts to run down more things, as members of the locker room storm out, being held back by crew members. Some more running down of anyone possible, and a new Derek Wylde later, they leave the ring, as Cody gets back up to his feet, and is applauded by some fans for his effort. As he gets to the entrance way however, Jennifer Blake comes out and slaps him in the face, before going to the back. Cody heads back a moment or two later, and the event has come to a close.
Jordan gets back in the ring, thanks everybody for coming, and then welcomes back Sabu who comes out to take Polaroid pictures with any fan that will pay for them or is interested.
Overall, a pretty good event, and for only 2 matches being announced, the knowledge of a light heavyweight match, and Sinn appearing, a pretty large crowd to say the least. The next show is April 30th at the same Serbian Hall. Reading words on whatever website you may be reading this on just doesn’t do it’s justice as to how good the show was, which is probably the best show I’ve been to so far in 2005. I’ll be back in 2 weeks with an in depth report on NWA Upstate, April 9th which already has stars like Abyss, Bobby Roode, Colt Cabana, Danny Doring and an unnamed former ECW champion announced for it. Until then, I’m gone.
